I've had a few emails regarding reportedly leaking new float valves, the customer of course is requesting I change the faulty new valve for a non leaking item. I've been working with Mikuni for 17 years now and have yet to come across a new valve assembly from Mikuni which is faulty. Mikuni don't make faulty float valves.
100% of leaking valves are caused by sediment, dirt, rust from the fuel tank and fuel line, and "solid" old rubber carb mountings transmitting the engine vibration into the valve assembly so making the valve leak.
I am amazed by the number of customers who when informed of this tell me they have new carb mountings and are running the bike from a new fuel bottle, using filtered fresh fuel with a fine mesh fuel filter from the bottle into the carbs. It must be the valve they say. I get weary knowing the valve is not the cause and have to go through the scenario long hand. The smallest speck of dirt will let a valve free flow, New fuel tanks are not clean inside and require a flush before use and preferably a
filter fitting on the fuel line to the carbs.
